Guests were saddled in Western-themed attire, and a crowd of 230 enjoyed the shindig of the year as they helped raised more than $157,000 in net proceeds for the nonprofit organization.
In one of the longest running and most reputable galas in Orange County, the annual event for Providence featured, among other menu items, cowboy dry rubbed flank steak and barbecue chicken, country biscuits and honey butter, and individual warm apple cobblers with a side of whipped cream for dessert. The wine served was from Raywood 2005 and 2006, cabernet sauvignon and chardonnay.
"Providence Speech and Hearing Center is the leader in Orange County in helping with speech, language and hearing delays, and it appears our Annual Benefit Event is among the best in Orange County," said Providence Speech and Hearing Center Chief Executive Officer Linda H. Smith, RN, BSN, PHN. "Once again, our incredibly dedicated staff, board and volunteers are the driving force behind the Annual Benefit Event, and the reason for our success."

week reminded me of how long I have been at Providence. I have been proud to be
part of many many lives; 4 patients' lives in particular this week touched
me.
I began with these 4 young boys when I started here in 1998. They were of
various ages from kindergarten through 2nd grade. All of them were new
identifications of significant hearing loss. I was a major turning point for
them. I began the process to get them their first hearing aids here.
Now they are attending college and doing well. They are all taller than me,
fully grown adults. It has been great to be a part of their success in
graduating high school and attending college. In part, it was due to hearing
their teachers with their hearing aids and service from Providence.
Seeing them all this past week, by coincidence or was it providential? Regardless, it felt good to be here this long to watch them grow up.
After
only a few sessions of working on size concepts "big/little", Mikey
demonstrated his mastery by taking the role of therapist and asking me:
"Que quieres? Grande o Chiquito?" the next time I saw him.
